Gift of Gab -- 4th Dimensional Rocketships Going Up

Those that know me and those that have been following this site know how big of a fan I am of Quannum Productions. It's a rap group which makes really interesting rap cds, ones that don't sound anything like modern rap. They're really good at making some high quality music. Gift of Gab is a member of Quannum and you'll understand how sad I am to say that this cd is no good. Gift of Gab is half of Blackalicious and this cd proves that he needs to stay with Cheif XCel next to him, cause when left to his own devices, he suddenly becomes the same as every other rapper. Most of the songs are just a beat with him rapping over it, and it doesn't offer any cool and new ways of creating music. His lyricism is still quite good however and so if you can get past the dullness of the music then you can get some pretty cool lyrics in there. There are still two songs which show some of the old Blackalicious flavor, "Writz" which samples from the old song "Puttin' On The Ritz", and "Evolution" which showcases some of his interesting rhyming abilities. This cd is a bit more soulful as a whole and that may be why he made it.

Only pick this one up if like me you become a big fan of Quannum Projects. There are a lot of different ones you can start out with which you'd like. I hate having to give it this, but I'm going to have to give it 2 out of 4 stars. There are still some good stuff on it, but not worth how much I payed for it.
